Since the Open Space Committee has been disbanded, we are hoping one of our members will volunteer to monitor and update the status of each of these projects. It is important to watch the progress of the open space plan since our allocated funding of $745,368 will be reallocated to other jurisdictions if the funds are not used.

Here is the background information on this issue which you may find interesting:

Montgomery County's Open Space Preservation Program

In November, 2003, voters in Montgomery County voted to approve a $150 million bond issue related to open space preservation under the Green Fields/Green Towns program, the second version of an open space preservation initiative for the county. See the October, 2003 article from the King of Prussia Courier which discusses the program prior to having had the bond issue approved. Under the second version, fully developed communities like Narberth were fully recognized as having open space needs - hence the "Green Towns" designation. (Under the first iteration of the open space preservation program, municipalities having urban conditions like Narberth in the county were not really taken into account and no funding was made available for Narberth. However, in Narberth style, we prepared a plan anyway in consultation with the Waetzman Group and that plan formed the basis for the recently completed Downtown project.) Click here to go to Montgomery County's web site to get more details on the Green Fields/ Green Towns program itself. Narberth was allocated $745,368 from the bond issue under the first round of funding.

The Narberth Open Space Committee

The Narberth Open Space Committee was appointed by Borough Councl in July of 2004 and the Committee first met in August of 2004 for the purpose of completing an open space plan for the Borough. The Committee continued to meet during 2004, 2005 and had its last meeting on January 10, 2006. Here are the dates the Committee met and where available, minutes from the Committee's meetings:

3/31/05

November
01/18/05

In February, 2005, the Committee selected Brown & Kenner Bressi to be the consultant to produce the plan document and the most current version of the document is available for download on this page. The Committee was disbanded after having accomplished its mission and the job of implementation of the various priority projects has been left to specific Borough Council Committees noted at the top of the page.
